While life for some people might be slowly returning to some form of pre-pandemic normalcy, many remain unsettled and still struggle to survive.
Keeping the needs of the underprivileged in mind, Malaysia’s Quest International University (QIU) recently prepared and distributed food packets to 150 people in Ipoh, Perak.
Twenty QIU employees participated in the institution’s University Social Responsibility (USR) programme by spending a Saturday preparing, packing, and distributing the food around the city. RYTHM Foundation, the social impact arm of QI Group, coordinated the event. The Ipoh-based QIU is QI’s education venture.
Aimed at reaching out to the displaced and those facing tough times, the volunteers prepared the meals in a kitchen at the university before distributing the food in three areas.
The soup kitchen was a way for the university to reduce food insecurity within the city’s marginalised and displaced communities. Preparing and distributing the meals also allowed the employees to participate in an activity to help the more vulnerable.
QIU is a comprehensive, research-led private university with global strategic links to deliver quality programmes and interdisciplinary research of international standing.
