Rivers are the lifeline of human civilization. Since time immemorial rivers have provided a source of water, a mode of transport, and irrigation for farming. Today’s urban rivers are becoming a major cause of environmental pollution.
QI Group staff @thiripura_sunthari.r joined a group of volunteers to help clean the Klang river in Malaysia.
“I was shocked to see the state of the Klang river. I’m from Klang and I wanted to do something for our river. What I saw there, simply broke my heart. People have been throwing everything into the river, clothes, racks, needles, plastic and rubbish. The apathetic attitude and negligent actions of humans has resulted in serious pollution,” she says.
“It is important for all of us to recognise the impact of our actions. Taking care of the environment is the responsibility of each and every one of us,” she adds.
