The Annual Day 2025 celebrates students’ milestones and launches a custom sustainability book, foreshadowing a future of expanded opportunities for neurodivergent youth.
KUALA LUMPUR, 8 NOVEMBER 2025 – Taarana School, an award-winning education centre for children with special education needs in Malaysia, celebrated its Taarana Annual Day 2025 at Auditorium Tan Sri Soma, Wisma Tun Sambanthan, Kuala Lumpur, with a groundbreaking Vocational Programme For Neurodivergent Youth set to launch in 2027. More details will be released in due course.
This new programme is expected to complement Taarana’s lifelong educational pathway, which nurtures learners from as early as age four and continues through adolescence.
Designed for neurodivergent individuals aged 16 to 25, the new Vocational Programme will provide hands-on, practical training in a supportive environment, directly addressing the employment challenges faced by this community.
It ensures that students who begin their journey at Taarana can progress from foundational learning to being equipped with vocational training, ready to make meaningful contributions to the broader community as valued and empowered individuals.
Celebrating Progress, Launching Innovation

The annual day event featured heartwarming performances that demonstrated Taarana students’ growing confidence and abilities.
Reflecting on the students’ achievements, Datin Seri Umayal Eswaran, Chairperson of RYTHM Foundation, shared, “Education is the foundation, but opportunity is the bridge. Through Taarana, we give exposure to the children, assist in building their confidence, and help them step confidently into a world that needs their unique abilities.”
A key highlight was the soft launch of The Magic of Recycling, a custom-designed interactive workbook that makes sustainability education accessible to both neurotypical and neurodivergent children. Authored by Taarana teacher Joanne Matilda John, the book uses vibrant visuals and interactive elements to teach environmental stewardship.
Its launch was creatively underscored by a performance by teachers using props made entirely from recycled materials; a creative nod to the school’s ZeroWaste Project, initiated in August 2024.
“A special highlight of this year’s celebration is Taarana’s spirit of innovation with the launch of The Magic of Recycling book,” said Dr Sunitha Sivakumaran, Principal of Taarana School.
“It is a practical, thoughtfully designed resource that makes complex topics accessible. It exemplifies how Taarana develops effective learning solutions from within, proving that with the right approach, every student can meaningfully engage with vital issues like sustainability,” she added.
Honouring a Culture of Dedication

This year’s Annual Day also celebrated the dedication of Taarana’s staff and parents, who continue to create a supportive learning environment for students of all abilities. Among those honoured were Noor Irni Hanida, Taarana School’s in-house Occupational Therapist, recognised for her 10 years of dedicated service, and Loke Angie, Early Transition Programme Teacher, who celebrated 5 years of commitment and care in nurturing the growth and progress of Taarana’s students.
“Every child’s growth is a shared achievement between teachers, therapists, and families. What we build at Taarana goes beyond therapy sessions — it’s a community of patience, trust, and belief in every child’s potential,” said Noor Irni Hanida, reflecting on her decade-long journey with the school.
The performances and presentations offered a powerful glimpse into the children’s confidence and progress — proof that inclusive education can awaken each child’s creativity and sense of self. One member from the Parent Support Group noted how each student’s growth reflects the transformative impact of tailored support and guidance:
“Taarana’s Annual Day reflects the spirit of every child’s journey. Watching my son Tan Chen Liang Mukesh’s journey unfold here has shown me how every child, when nurtured with love and patience, can blossom beyond expectation,” said Kaushalya Balakrishnan.
Beyond honouring individual milestones, the Annual Day reinforced Taarana’s belief that education rooted in care and inclusion cultivates confidence and independence — values that will anchor its new vocational programme in the year ahead.
“At Taarana, we do not believe in a one-size-fits-all education. We meet each child where they are and build a unique path forward,” said Shreevidya Anandan, Deputy Head of RYTHM Foundation.
“Taarana School curriculum is structured thoughtfully, adapted daily by Taarana educators to ensure every student can access learning in a way that makes sense to them. This requires a deep belief in potential and a refusal to define a child by their challenges,” she further emphasised.
Driving Sustainable Impact and Inclusive Education
Building on this momentum, Taarana will continue expanding the reach of The Magic of Recycling initiative in 2026 through partnerships with local environmental NGOs. This effort forms part of the school’s broader vision of integrating experiential learning with practical training, paving the way for the upcoming Vocational Programme for Neurodivergent Youth that will empower these children with crucial life and work skills.
Through the integration of sustainability, creativity, and vocational readiness, Taarana continues to stand out as a model of inclusive education — fostering joy, purpose, and a genuine sense of belonging among children of all abilities.
