It was a fulfilling day for 41 QI Philippines staff who volunteered at the Star FM’s Medical and Dental Mission project in Manila recently. The medical mission allowed over 7,000 underprivileged members of the community the opportunity to seek free medical and dental treatment. The medical mission, dubbed as Bombo Medico, is on in its 12th year and was held in conjunction with the radio station’s 53rd founding anniversary.QI volunteers helped usher and direct patients to the right medical booths, assisted the elderly, helped patients on their wheelchair, carried young children to seek treatment, and assisted doctors and nurses with the treatment process. The medical mission was a blessing to the thousands who had no means to go to the hospital; some due to the great distance from their remote homes, while some are faced with financial difficulties to pay for the treatment and the necessary medicines that they need.A volunteer Leo Carlo Santos said it was an emotional moment to see so many people struggling to get the most basic medical needs.“It is a blessing to be here to assist them today and contribute to the mission in our small way. I hope to continue helping the needy in any way possible to the best of my ability,” he said.It was estimated that PHP1.5 million worth of medicines were distributed to those in need during the mission, thanks to the contribution of various sponsors for the event.
