A recent Maharani alumni visit to Universiti Malaya gave 40 young women the opportunity to experience campus life firsthand as they prepare for the next phase of their educational journey. The participants, who were part of Malaysia’s Maharani School Programme (MSP) Cohort 1 and completed their secondary education examinations last year, explored new possibilities and gained valuable exposure to higher education pathways.
For many of these students, the opportunity to step onto the grounds of one of Malaysia’s leading public research universities marked a significant milestone. Beyond seeing lecture halls and facilities, they experienced what higher education could look like—making future ambitions feel more tangible and within reach.
A Transformative Experience Beyond the Classroom
The visit provided more than just a campus tour. It offered the girls a chance to immerse themselves in a new environment, ask questions, and begin imagining their place in a university setting.
Such exposure is especially impactful for students from underserved communities, where access to information and opportunities can often be limited. By bridging this gap, the experience helps build confidence and encourages informed decision-making about their next steps.
“Exposure is often the turning point between aspiration and action. Through initiatives like the Maharani alumni visit to Universiti Malaya, we are helping young women see what is possible—and believe that they belong in these spaces,” said Shreevidya Anandan, Head of RYTHM Foundation.

Empowering Girls Through the Maharani Programme
This initiative is part of the broader Maharani Programme, RYTHM Foundation’s flagship initiative to empower girls and young women through education and holistic development.
Designed to address systemic barriers, the programme supports participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to pursue higher education and meaningful careers.
Maharani School Programme: A Structured Approach to Empowerment
The Maharani Programme primarily comprises two core components designed to support girls at different stages of their development.
The flagship Maharani School Programme (MSP) works closely with secondary schools, providing consistent support to nurture their growth through:
- Academic encouragement and motivation
- Leadership and personal development
- Mentorship and guidance
- Confidence-building activities
Through sustained engagement, the MSP helps students build a strong foundation—equipping them with the skills, resilience, and self-belief needed to pursue opportunities beyond school.
Maharani Learning Lab: Supporting the Transition Beyond School
Complementing the MSP, the Maharani Learning Lab (MLL) focuses on supporting the adolescent girls as they transition into higher education or vocational pathways.
It provides:
- After-school enrichment and learning support for girls from underserved communities, including exposure to digital tools, STEM, coding, Canva, and financial literacy.
- Personal development and empowerment sessions focused on confidence, leadership, communication, self-awareness, and independence.
- A safe and nurturing environment that supports holistic growth, learning, and future-readiness beyond academics.
Initiatives such as the MLL alum’s visit to the university reflect this phase, offering participants real-world exposure and helping them make informed decisions about their future.

Turning Aspirations into Action
The campus visit reflects the importance of access and exposure in shaping futures. By stepping into a university environment, the girls were able to see new possibilities for themselves—transforming distant dreams into achievable goals.
Through the Maharani Programme, RYTHM remains committed to creating opportunities for girls from underserved communities—ensuring they have the support, confidence, and access needed to learn, grow, and thrive.
