Singapore, 17 August – In conjunction with Humanitarian Day, QI Singapore with the support of RYTHM Foundation, organised a CSR activity for the AWWA Community Home for Senior Citizens. Though many activities had been held before with the AWWA Senior Citizens, this occasion was extra special because it was a trip to the Moment of Imagination and Nostalgia with Toys (MINT) Museum.
The MINT Museum, a private museum that belongs to a Singapore citizen, showcases an extensive collection of rare and unique vintage toys from the mid-19th Century to the mid-20th Century, including the oldest – a tumbling toy, which was made by the Germans way back in 1840. The museum aims to reach out to the child in every one, giving visitors an emotional link to their childhood, especially the ones that have been long forgotten.

Twenty-five volunteers gathered as early as 9.30am at the MINT Museum and paired up with thirty-eight senior citizens from AWWA to assist them to the rooftop, where they began their guided tour. After they completed their tour, it was time for fun arts and crafts DIY activities where they learned how to make pouches, handbags, and puppets by sewing them with plastic needles. The five best handicrafts were selected and awarded with special prizes.
To end the day, they were treated to a delicious lunch spread and participants were given small travelling bags as tokens of love and remembrance for this year’s Humanitarian Day.

Q Lifestyle Chief Of Operations (COO) Daryl Bisset said, “The day was very much appreciated by the old folks from AWWA, and according to one of the beneficiaries, P. Seeni, their visit to the MINT Museum was a very entertaining event, in which they enjoyed themselves a lot.”
According to Seeni, the tour of the toy museum had refreshed their memories and they loved how helpful the volunteers were in the handicraft activity. We definitely made a difference by touching the hearts of the elderly.
