QI Singapore launched the A Packet of Rice project, where volunteers distribute meals and food items to senior citizens who are living in rental flats and are in need of support.
Together with the help of Sarah Senior Activity Centre, the volunteers from QI Singapore were able to spread joy and support to Jalan Bukit Merah’s senior residents. Despite the challenges that they faced, as some of the senior citizens were not open to meeting strangers, the volunteers were still able to extend their help and bring support to the low-earning, single, and abandoned elderlies.
The volunteer team began their day with a short briefing on the do’s and don’ts, followed by a discussion of their strategy for the day, and then unloading the food items that they’d be distributing.
The team officially started the programme by repacking the goods and distributing them to their intended recipients.
The QI Singapore volunteers hope to organise more A Packet of Rice outreach activities to help in easing senior residents’ difficulties, by offering care, warmth, and, most importantly, hope for their remaining days.
