Hong Kong, 19 November 2011 – The ‘Rainbow Trek’ is a hike with a difference, and one that holds a special place in the hearts of QI staff. Every year, this fundraising event, held by the Island School Amalgamated Charities for the Rainbow Project, raises money for a wonderful cause – increasing awareness of autism and providing educational facilities for children affected by it.

For a few years now, Hong Kong employees have collected funds that RYTHM Foundation has gladly doubled, thanks to the QNet Pays Forward initiative, which encourages QNet IRs and employees alike to give back to the community. As the Rainbow Trek supports a cause that’s dear to many employees, quite a few have actually participated in the event. This is quite an impressive feat, considering that the Hong Kong Trail is a challenging 50km long!
The Hong Kong Trail may be long, but it’s scenic.
A veteran to the Rainbow Trek is QI Director for International Operations, Richard Zinkiewicz. Having participated in the event for a few years, there was no question that Mr. Zinkiewicz was the best person to lead the Hong Kong team on this year’s unforgettable adventure! The gutsy group braved unfriendly weather, slippery rocks, dirt roads, steep inclines, bug bites and other outdoor elements. What kept them going was sheer determination, focus and, of course, the cause.
We’re sure those clothes won’t stay white for long!
“This event is a very worthwhile endeavour that I can check off my bucket list, but with a strong desire to challenge myself again next year. It’s not often that I get to enjoy such a perfect day!” said Mr. Zinkiewicz. “Yes, my muscles were aching, and I needed plenty of carbohydrates and sleep after; but overcoming a personal challenge, being close to nature, and supporting a fantastic cause, made the whole experience something I’ll always remember. I hope even more people will participate next year and that I can beat my best time from the last 3 years.”
QI Director for International Operations, Richard Zinkiewicz, still all smiles after conquering the 50km trail.
Congratulations to the courageous group and Mr. Zinkiewicz for completing the full 50km challenge – yet again – in good spirits and style!
