A total of 26 QI Hong Kong staff spent a productive Saturday morning on 9 September 2017 by volunteering their time with Crossroads Foundation. It is a non-profit organisation whose goal is to bring together those in need and those who can help. One of the foundation’s main initiatives is the collection and global redistribution of donated goods.
To head to the foundation, volunteers gathered at Tuen Mun West Rail Station and travelled to Crossroads Village by minibus. Upon arrival, an introductory briefing was delivered by a foundation staff, as this was QI’s first volunteer experience at Crossroads Foundation. Volunteers were then divided into different groups and began to sort donated items in different categories and packaged them for delivery.
A volunteer, Winnie So, said it was a great experience to recycle goods that are no longer wanted by the public for a good cause. “Recycling unused goods is not only good for the environment, but it can benefit those in need. It is great that we are able to play a part in this,” she added.
Benjamin Wong, also a volunteer, said that participating in this Crossroads Foundation activity had been incredibly inspiring. “In a city of plenty, it is all too easy to forget those who are deprived, those who have nothing. Crossroads Foundation is constantly working hard to help those in need, and it is an honour and truly meaningful that my time, skills, and knowledge went to such a fantastic cause,” he said.
