Education shapes futures, but many youth in Ghana struggle to access it. Some families can’t afford school, while others lack resources and trained teachers. For children with disabilities, the challenges are even greater.
Ghana’s 2010 Population and Housing Census reports that around 3% of the population has a disability, with visual impairment being the most common. Many of these young individuals face barriers to education, limiting their opportunities later in life.
RYTHM Foundation is working to create real change in Ghana’s education system. Through partnerships, targeted programs, and community initiatives, we’re helping to make learning more accessible so every child can grow and succeed.
Inclusive Learning Spaces for Youth in Ghana
An inclusive school environment is a vital step toward progress. Through its partnership with the ANOPA Project, RYTHM supports inclusive education by creating learning spaces accommodating students with disabilities.
ANOPA blends sports with education to promote skill-building, teamwork, and social inclusion. With a focus on students with physical, hearing, and visual disabilities, the NGO uses adaptive sports to make education more engaging and accessible.
Since 2020, the award-winning collaboration has enhanced programs at Aboom School for Special Needs in Cape Coast and Dzorwulu Special School in Accra. Activities like swimming and basketball build physical strength and foster inclusivity, creating a school culture where every child feels valued and supported.

Building Skills for Independence
Education goes beyond exams. The RYTHM-ANOPA partnership blends vocational training with academics, equipping students with practical skills for financial independence.
Through hands-on learning in beading, soap-making, and gardening, they gain trades that open doors to employment, entrepreneurship, and meaningful community contributions.
Making Schools More Accessible
Schools should be where every student feels supported and included, both in and out of the classroom.
To support students with disabilities, the partnership improved accessibility with wheelchair-friendly pathways and mechanized water systems, creating a safer, more inclusive learning environment.
Financial barriers also keep many children from school. The partnership eases this by providing books, uniforms, and stationery, ensuring students have the tools to succeed.
Strengthening Communities Through Education
Education shapes every part of a child’s life. The RYTHM-ANOPA partnership goes beyond classrooms, running workshops for parents, teachers, and local leaders to build support for inclusive education.
Training teachers in inclusive techniques ensures students of all abilities get quality learning while advocacy efforts push for stronger policies that promote equal opportunities in Ghana’s education system.
