I love the unique employee volunteering program the company offers to all staff. These SSR – Staff Social Responsibility activities have opened my eyes to so much around me. One of the projects I participated in was a late-night food distribution program for the homeless. I have to admit that I was nervous about this since I had many not-so-positive assumptions about people who were homeless.
But that night as we were out distributing food packets and interacting with these people, I realised how wrong I was. Most of them are just like us; normal people who have hopes, dreams, desires and aspirations for a better life. Circumstances forced them into the streets and they are doing their best to cope. It was humbling to realise this. Volunteering is truly an enriching experience. It makes you appreciate life even more and teaches you to be grateful for everything you have. I would encourage everyone to serve as a volunteer at least once!
