QI Thailand staff recently took part in a Staff Social Responsibility (SSR) programme themed Sea Life on 25 November 2017. The programme was organised with Sansiri PLC., one of the top three real estate developers in Thailand.
The objective was to bring cheer and joy to neglected members of an underprivileged community by treating them to a visit to Siam Ocean World. The community consists adults and children of Burmese and Cambodian descent living in Bangkok’s construction sites. Most of the adults came from rural areas of their countries to work as construction labourers while their children, although born in Thailand, are stateless and live with their parents at the sites.
The outing began with a ride on chartered vans for the parents and kids who were brimming with excitement as they looked forward to a once in a lifetime experience. Upon arrival, there was an informal meet-and-greet session between the 48 QI volunteers and 47 parents and children from the community. The group then proceeded to explore the 10,000-square meter aquarium which had hundreds of underwater species on display.
Ann Sasipen Kuneepong, Project Management Executive at QNET, who took part in the activity commented, “I am happy to be here and help provide a great experience to the community, they are such genuine people!” Another volunteer, Pong Namon Choteanankul, Creative Specialist at QNET, found that “It is important for us to learn about the existence of forgotten communities who need our help.”
A representative from the community also expressed their gratitude to the QI volunteers, “The outing today made us feel special and let us know that we are not alone. Thank you for this great experience!”
