We believe that children with special needs have the potential to live their lives to the fullest given the right guidance and emotional support. With this in mind, QNET staff in UAE recently volunteered at the Senses Residential and Day Care Centre, in order to spend quality time and offer emotional support to the children there.
The centre is a non-profit organisation, which is also the first and only residential care facility for special needs in the UAE and the Middle East. Through its specialised programmes that combine speech and music therapy, art, life skills, sports and physiotherapy, children from the age of two to nineteen with mild or severe physical disabilities and Down Syndrome receive the care they need.
The group of 6 volunteers, who travelled from Abu Dhabi and Sharjah to the centre in Dubai, accompanied the children through their routine activities such as music classes, meal and playtimes, and daily walks. In order to create an added touch of fun for the children, there was also a party with exciting games organised for the children.
Judging from the smiles on their faces, the children had a wonderful time with our volunteers. In turn, QNET volunteers found this to be a meaningful and fulfilling activity as they were able to provide a brief respite to the children from their daily challenges and made a difference to their day.
