Jakarta, Indonesia, 24 April, 2014 – In conjunction with International Women’s Day, our friends in QNET Indonesia celebrated the “Kartini Day” with their own local women’s day. Through RYTHM Foundation, they threw a special gathering for a group of lower income women from Kebon Melati, Karet, where they imparted knowledge on entrepreneurship.
The event kicked off with a welcome speech by Nurul, Operations Executive of QNET Indonesia followed by a presentation by QNET Indonesia Corporate Communications Manager Wita Dahlan, who shared a presentation about the benefits of being an entrepreneur and handy tips on starting a small business. The session was followed by baking lessons by a guest chef. Other QNET staff assisted the chef in teaching the participants on how to make healthy birthday cakes and puddings.
It was fascinating to see how simple and affordable raw materials could be turned into million-rupiah cakes. Our presence on that bright day quickly spread to the rest of the neighbourhood, and suddenly, more women and even children flocked the class for some food tasting!
To encourage participants to keep up with their newly learned skill, QNET gave each of them goodie bags consisting of raw baking materials. QNET also donated some rare fruit trees so this neighbourhood of low-paid labour workers could enjoy a greener environment.
