QI Malaysia partnered with ICareBearz (ICB)to distribute food packs to 150 homeless individuals who call the streets of Kuala Lumpur their home. ICB was formed in 2013 by a group of volunteers including a QI Malaysia staff who met whilst volunteering at a Feed the Homeless program in Kuala Lumpur. ICB strives to make a positive impact for the underprivileged in our community through their projects that include street feeding, grocery distribution, school shoes and school supplies donations.
Volunteers from QI and ICB representatives started their day by meeting in QI Tower to prepare and pack egg sandwiches to be distributed to the homeless. They were later divided into groups, with each group having one ICB representative to lead them.
Our 16 volunteers walked the streets of Petaling Street, Bangkok Bank, Masjid Negara and Jalan Lebuh Ampang in Kuala Lumpur to distribute the packed food. The distribution areas were identified beforehand by ICB’s prior to the the activity.
In addition to distributing the food items, which were accepted with a smile by the homeless, our volunteers also spent time to sit down and listen to their stories and shared with them the hope for a better future.
The outreach programme was both a fulfilling and humbling experience for the volunteers. A volunteer Preethi Subramany said the street feeding activity was an eye-opener to see the hardship of the homeless.
“It made me realise how fortunate I am and it is surely a great reminder for us to share our blessings with the less fortunate,” she added.
