Allies of RYTHM Foundation, the local CSR arm in Malaysia, Vijayaratnam Foundation, have made us lifetime proud by doing an impossible feat! A group of volunteers cooked up a storm by treating the homeless of Kuala Lumpur and surrounding areas to a spread of delicious vegetarian meals.
It is an on-going mission of Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK), a registered NGO, which provides food for the homeless, and the urban poor.
On 8 March 2014, forty QI Malaysia staff who volunteered for this event gathered at KSK’s premises for the briefing before heading for the distribution rounds with some KSK members in areas such as Pudu, Imbi, Bukit Bintang, Petaling Street, Chow Kit and Sentul.
A total of eight hundred packs of vegetarian food consisting of burgers, biscuits, snacks, drinking water, and fruits were distributed to the homeless during the three hour mission to feed the hunger.
QI Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Boey Kho said it was an unforgettable experience and an eye-opener for staff members who participated in this activity. She noted that the project was intended to promote awareness amongst the staff about the plight of destitute people in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
With its tagline ‘Hunger Knows No Barriers,’ KSK feeds anyone on a daily basis at their premises at Jalan Barat, Off Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur while the weekend operations are conducted at various locations in collaboration with volunteer and corporate groups.
Other than providing food, KSK acts as a point of contact for the homeless to receive counselling services and medical care, as well as access to employment opportunities. Through this approach, it offers a long-term solution to the reduction of homeless men and women living on our streets. Cheers to a job well done for friends of Vijayaratnam Foundation!
