Hong Kong, 30 June, 2012 – Sometimes a little bit goes a long way. It’s amazing what a little encouragement and support can do for others. As part of their CSR initiatives, QI Hong Kong staff showed that they care for the ‘golden members of the community’ – the elderly – by spending some quality time with them and spreading joy and cheer.
This time, the staff visited the China Coast Community (CCC), a Care and Attention Home for the English-speaking elderly in Hong Kong which provides residential care for the elderly regardless of their financial circumstances.

This endeavor falls under one the four pillars of the RYTHM Foundation, namely, Community Development. It is also in line with the QI motto ‘We Care’ which has long since been the vehicle through which concern for the elderly is shown.
The activity started with a briefing from the China Coast Community’s General Manager Ms. Vijai Singh. Throughout the visit, the QI staff learnt how to interact with the elderly which required patience, kindness and perseverance on their part. It was truly a beneficial time for the elderly, too, as they had the chance to share their experiences and challenges with the staff.

The staff had a lot of fun with the elderly playing simple games, singing together and getting to know them better through leisurely chit chats about their life in Hong Kong and what they are passionate about. It was indeed encouraging to see that the elderly were well taken care of and, in turn, they were happy to have the staff as visitors.
There was a lot learned from the visit. Through the activities, the staff was reminded of their own parents and learnt to face their fears of getting old. Most importantly, they learnt the value of life and the power of positive thinking.
