RYTHM Foundation thru "QuestNet Pays Forward" partners with World Vision Indonesia to help West Sumatra Earthquake Survivors
Jakarta, Indonesia: 24 February 2010 - On November 2009, RYTHM Foundation through the QuestNet Pays Forward program donated USD 20,000 to World Vision Indonesia's West Sumatra Earthquake Emergency Response.
Western Indonesia was struck by a powerful earthquake on 5 October 2009 with a 7.6 moment magnitude. Thousands died or were injured with most deaths occurring in the areas of Agam, Padang and Padang Pariaman. Thousands more were trapped under collapsed buildings wrought by the temblor which also started fires, severed roads, caused landslides that buried some villages and cut off power and communications. An estimated 250,000 families (1,250,000 people) were affected by the earthquake through the total or partial loss of their homes and livelihoods.
World Vision, a non-profit child-focused emergency, relief, development and advocacy organisation, through its representative in Indonesia, worked in the districts of Agam, Padang and Padang Pariaman during the Padang Earthquake emergency relief operations. RYTHM Foundation's donation was utilized to provide survivors with water, temporary shelter, sanitation and family kits. It also provided safe and child-friendly spaces for children, school kits for 2,482 students and 3 Mobile Libraries.
Pooled with donations from other big corporations, RYTHM Foundation's fund was also used to build a new mobile library called "Mobil Sahabat Anak" (Children's Car Friend). The car will carry books, educational movies and games to children in the West Sumatra region.
On 24 February 2010, a team of QuestNet staff composed of Public Relations Manager Mr Rajesh Rao, Project Manager Mr Christophe Altaie, and Corporate Communications Manager Ms Wita Dahlan had the chance to symbolically hand-over the car to Ms Emilia Sitompul, National Resources Development Director of Wahana Visi Indonesia, a partner of World Vision. In the future, the mobile library may also be driven to other regions whenever needed.
