RYTHM Foundation Donates USD 50,000 to Build Opportunities for Disadvantaged Youth in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka: 21 April 2009 - In the devastating wake of natural disasters, and coupled with a higher cost of living, lower incomes and unemployment, many developing nations are facing dire living circumstances. One such region is in the Sri Lankan village of Seenigama, which is still in tatters after the 2004 Asian Tsunami.
With its mission to build opportunities and care for those in need, RYTHM Foundation (RF), has made a heartfelt donation worth USD 50,000 to The Foundation of Goodness (FoG), a Sri Lankan non-governmental organisation (NGO) working to re-erect the torn physical, structural, emotional and spiritual damage found in the area and its people. The Foundation has been working for the betterment of villagers for ten years, with the aim of narrowing the economic gap between urban and rural Sri Lanka.
The USD 50,000 cheque was officially presented by RF representative Vilvarajan Vijayaratnam, on behalf of the Managing Trustee of RF Vijay Eswaran, to the Founder of Goodness (FoG) Kushil Gunasekera at the FoG Project Office in Colombo on 21 April 2009.
"Having understood the depth of the work the FoG has put into rural sector, by way of its holistic approach we are proud to be a part of this endeavour," Vilvarajan said on behalf of RYTHM Foundation.
"This donation will be used for the Village Heartbeat Project, a proven working model which empowers rural children and youth through productive activities, such as English teaching, Computer training, a Children's Goodness Club, Women's Enterprise classes, Skills development, and Library facilities for disadvantaged children and youth in and around five villages". Vilvarajan emphasized "All these management sectors will surely make a big positive difference to the lives of the children and their families".
RYTHM Foundation has a strong belief that children are the future of society. Therefore, it is important to provide equal opportunities for disadvantaged children around the world by improving the quality of their education and life.
