RYTHM Foundation Changes Lives for the Taguig Community
Taguig, Philippines: 17 October 2008 - Hundreds of children in the village of Taguig in the Philippines are being fed, clothed and schooled through a long-term project initiated by RYTHM Foundation that aims to eliminate poverty in the squatter community.
While the children of this village are a primary focus, the impact of the Taguig Project also ensures the village's adults are provided livelihood opportunities and taught self-supporting initiatives. Significant financial support and on-the-ground education and resources are ongoing within the community thanks to the RYTHM Foundation project.
Project Manager Ms Renu Gidoomal, who now lives amongst the community to ensure morale and to oversee project efforts, initiated the Taguig Project in January 2007. The Project has helped to improve the academic performances of 200 needy children and supported the development of the assisting school towards self-sustainability. The Project is working to alleviate poverty of the whole squatter community by enhancing community-building initiatives and improving health, immunity and nutrition of village members.
Through this support, RYTHM Foundation has sent 60 children from the Taguig community to a private not-for-profit school, the HSL Braille College, providing the students with full scholarships.
The majority of the financial funding of the Taguig Project has been directed towards school fees for the children, with a substantial amount also contributed towards a feeding programme and renovation of important learning and eating areas within the village. Providing medicine has also been a priority allocation of RYTHM Foundation funds and efforts.
The Taguig Project is an ongoing project that RYTHM Foundation believes will one day be self-supporting. Establishing sustainable, self-supporting communities is a major and important goal of RYTHM Foundation's projects that aim to eliminate poverty.
